Bread making is a contemplative process in the kneading of the bread.  Once you get in the rhythm, you can meditate (on the farmer, the wheat fields, the breaking of bread, etc.) and the sensory experience.

This event will teach making bread from scratch, including the grinding of the wheat.  The only machine will be the grinder.  Everything else will be done by hand.  We will make the Church smell very inviting.

Thursday May 23rd,  from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Friday May 24th, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Saturday May 25th, 2019 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Host: Dawn Weber
Number of Participants per day: 4
Cost: $10 per person
Tickets online: Breadmaking workshop

Each person will make 4 loaves of bread and be able to take one loaf home.  Supplies will be provided.

In between the rising (approximately 1 hour x 2), making the loaves, and rising (approximately 1 hour) and the baking for 35 minutes, we encourage you take part in other events of the Contemplative Arts Festival. As we have only two ovens, the making of the loaves and baking will be staggered. It is advised that if you have shoulder problems, not to participate.

In the afternoons we will sell fresh bread by the slice, with jam. At the end of the day, watch for the possible sale of loaves of bread.

For more information, please visit the Contemplative Arts Festival of Saskatoon homepage. The festival will be held at Grosvenor Park United Church from Thursday May 23rd to Sunday May 26th, 2019.  Festival Schedule
